From concept to trading. The concept of Praestamus Ltd has been thought about since 2015 when it was initially registered with Companies’ House although trading never commenced due to other work and family commitments. However, in December 2020, during the worst pandemic since the Black Death and after retiring from the Royal Navy, Managing Director James Mallabone and Director wife, Kate, re-registered Praestamus Ltd and began trading. Although based in the Forest of Dean, we can actually provide our services to the whole of the United Kingdom and beyond. The Covid-19 pandemic lockdown has greatly enhanced many businesses’ abilities to work remotely utilising internet based conferencing and video technology. Whilst many perceive coaching and training to be best delivered face to face, coaching has actually been proven to be just as effective over video calls. In fact, remote coaching can actually provide better conditions, in terms of privacy and timing, for leaders and coachees to safely work on their developmental goals.
What does Praestamus mean? Praesta is the Latin word for excellence and the form “Praestamus” means “We Excel”. As a company we strive for excellence in everything we do, however the “We” in Praestamus actually refers to the shared relationship between coach and coachee. The relationship is all important in coaching, and deemed by some, as the key predictor of success from the coaching arrangement.
Our offering. Praestamus offers both coaching and coaching training and in August 2021 became the latest company to gain acceptance as a Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Registered Centre. Currently we are endorsed to provide both Level 3 and Level 5 coaching training and can offer Awards, Certificates and Diplomas at both these academic levels. In time we aim to add the Level 7 coaching portfolio of modules to our offering and to develop a bespoke “one-stop” coaching, training and consultancy service to support businesses develop their coaching culture. As well as accredited CMI coaching training, Praestamus can provide bespoke individual, team and organisational training to meet and support your organisation’s professional and personal development agenda.
Additional services. To augment coaching and training, Praestamus can provide insights to individuals and teams to support better working relationships, team cohesion, awareness and understanding. This can be achieved through the use of psychometric questionnaires and feedback. Praestamus is endorsed to deliver the world popular MBTI (Myers Briggs Type Indicator) Step 1 psychometric tool, The FIRO-B (Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientation – Behaviour) tool, the 16PF (Personality Factors psychometric, Everything DiSC and the TKI (Thomas Killman Inventory) conflict model tool. For teams these can be delivered in group feedback sessions and team development events.
Teacher training. Praestamus Ltd has partnered with Train Visual to provide Instructional Coaching development to tutors and supervisors in UK FE and HE colleges. The HOW2 Instructional Coaching (c) Course (HOW2ICC) is specifically aimed at developing tutors and supervisors to implement and use HOW2 training technologies effectively in the classroom whilst helping develop internal college coaching culture. The HOW2ICC is the first bespoke instructional coaching course accredited at Level 5 with CMI that is being offered to colleges from Autumn 2021.
